Load Cells, Scales & Weigh Modules

Accurate weighing for every application. From silo and hopper weigh modules to bulk bag frames, mixers, and sanitary washdown solutions, Carolina-MT specifies engineered load cells and controls for GIW and LIW processes.

Weigh Modules on Silo Legs

Weigh modules/load cells support silos, hoppers, bulk bag unloaders, feeders, mixers, and day tanks—commonly for Loss-in-Weight (LIW) feeding. Bench & floor scales support Gain-in-Weight (GIW) drum/pail filling and checkweighing. Indicators provide the readout and control—stand-alone or PLC-integrated for batching.

Gain-in-Weight (GIW) vs Loss-in-Weight (LIW)

ApproachHow It WorksBest ForAccuracy (typ.)Notes
Gain-in-Weight Weighs material added into a hopper/scale (weight increases). Drum/pail filling, weigh hoppers, discrete batches. ~±0.1–0.25% FS Simpler mechanics; ideal for fill-to-weight and manual batching.
Loss-in-Weight Weighs feeder/supply as it discharges (weight decreases). Continuous or semi-continuous dosing/ratio control. ~±0.1–0.25% FS Excellent for precise feed rates with fast/dribble cutoff.

Weighing FAQ

What accuracy can I expect from silo weigh modules?

With proper mounting, calibration, and environmental considerations, ±0.1–0.25% of full scale is typical for process applications. We’ll design to your tolerance and select the right modules and indicators.

Should I choose LIW or GIW for batching?

Use LIW for precise continuous/semi-continuous feeding. GIW is ideal for discrete fills and drum/pail batching. We support both approaches and integrate with PLC/HMI as needed.

Can indicators control the entire batch?

Yes—advanced indicators offer fast/dribble, preact learning, tolerance checks, and data logging; or we can integrate with PLCs via Ethernet/IP, Modbus, or analog I/O.
